METAscripta is the digitization and metadata project of the Knights of Columbus Vatican Film Library, Department of Special Collections, Saint Louis University. METAscripta uses innovative metadata methods for summary indexing, embedded image tagging, controlled vocabulary, and crowdsourcing to support the study of the VFL microfilm collection of manuscripts from the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana.

This website is about the history and background of the project. Please also see METAscripta.org to use the METAscripta digital library, crowd-cataloging system, and Scholar's Workbench, a virtual research space for studying and annotating digitized manuscripts.
